PULR Technologies Inc. Announces Early Availability of Cooldat™ – an RFID-Based Enhancement to PTI with Cold Chain Tracking for Produce Supply Chains
MONTREAL – May 8, 2025 – PULR Technologies Inc. is proud to announce the early availability of Cooldat™, an advanced platform designed to enhance traceability, freshness monitoring, and operational efficiency across the produce supply chain. Cooldat, launched at CPMA 2025, introduces a major evolution of the Produce Traceability Initiative (PTI) by enabling the use of affordable UHF RAIN RFID for tracking produce freshness throughout every stage of distribution. PULR is a Registered ISV and Reseller Partner in the award-winning Zebra Technologies PartnerConnect program.
Cooldat is fully aligned with PTI specifications, adheres to GS1 standards, and is engineered with a forward-looking architecture that simplifies future compliance with the U.S. FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Section 204 Regulations. It does so by bringing fundamental improvements to PTI by adding Cold Chain Tracking Critical Tracking Events and Key Data Elements, from autonomous UHF RAIN RFID sensors that have recently reached volume production.
Although FSMA’s new traceability rule—originally set for enforcement by January 2026—has now been postponed by two years, this delay offers a unique and realistic window for the industry to adopt foundational operational improvements.
According to Zebra Technologies’ Food Safety Supply Chain Vision Study Report, “41% of industry decision-makers believe RFID technology offers the greatest potential to improve food traceability across the supply chain, surpassing all other technologies. However, only 31% currently deploy RFID in their operations, highlighting a significant opportunity for early adopters to gain a competitive edge by implementing it.”
“With Cooldat, we’re empowering Canadian growers, packers, shippers, cold chain 3PLs and grocers to take traceability to the next level,” said Francois Menard, CEO of PULR Technologies Inc. “Our solution is the first one to bridge the gap between automated freshness tracking with unparalleled granular accuracy and the data needed for dynamic pricing — without sacrificing PTI conformance or GS1 compatibility. It’s a future-proof solution, ready for pilot deployments today.”
Cooldat™ is fully compatible with Zebra’s broad RFID portfolio, including fixed and mobile reader solutions, and scalable to track millions of items in real time across complex logistics networks with item-level time-temperature logs. By easily integrating with existing ERP and warehouse management systems, Cooldat allows stakeholders to rapidly transition to more agile supply chains, while reducing waste, improving shelf life, and supporting regulatory compliance.
“We see this as a pivotal moment for the produce industry in Canada,” added Menard. “With the FSMA 204 deadline now set further ahead, the time to invest in smarter infrastructure is now. We internally developed Cooldat for scalability, so that produce supply chains can take advantage of AI & dynamic pricing to maximize revenues and minimize shrink.”
Cooldat™ was demoed in the Innovation Zone at CPMA 2025 on April 9 & 10, 2025.
